Why is it that, for me, writing a blog seems to be an unnecessary challenge that I can live without? Unlike a diary it is not just committing words or thoughts to the page. Diaries have little locks on and you keep them in the most secret place you can find, you keep secrets in them and would die of embarrassment if anybody you knew read them. A bit like keeping hidden chocolates, you don't want anybody to know were they are or see you eating them and you definitely don't want to share them with anyone. It's a little self indulgent pleasure, a therapy perhaps, something to keep hidden from the rest of the world and plenty of chocolate lovers need to do it from time to time.
A Blog on the other hand is more like picking your nose in the car. You don't mind who sees it, either because you don't care or because being in the car gives you a feeling of autonomy. You will never meet in person the hundreds of drivers going in the opposite direction, (probably picking their noses too!). You would again be dying of embarrassment if you got to your destination and someone said, "Hey I just saw you picking your nose in the car." If on the other hand the response from onlookers was, " Hey I just saw you picking your nose in the car. It was a great boggy you had there!" then it would make it more socially acceptable and you could continue to do it without risk of shame. This is the stage blogging has reached. You get a little bit of positive feedback about something you've blogged and it makes you feel good, and the more you feel good the more you blog, and the more you blog the more other people want to blog too! It becomes a way of being loved on line with out the mess of a marriage break up and emigrating to Seattle.
There will be plenty of people out there who don't like what you are doing but there will usually be someone who admits to liking what you do or at least share an interest in it. So come on all you Bloggees out there, give me some positive feed back so that I can continue picking in public. If not I will retire from blogging my inner most thoughts and feelings and go back to what i do best scoffing hidden chocolate in private.
